Paws Without Borders will never ever turn a dog in suffering away, even if it means that we have to make the tough decision to humanely euthanize a dog if they are beyond our capacity to help or our veterinarians think it is in the dog’s best interest. We have unfortunately witnessed some of the most unspeakable horrors and violence inflicted on street dogs…things that we will never be able to unsee and which cause us sleepless nights. But at Paws Without Borders, we aren’t here just for the easy cases, the dogs that are easy to love and find forever families for. We are also here for the dogs who, without us and our partners fighting for them, would continue to suffer unfathomable pain, abuse, hunger, and violence.
We do the hard work because it is necessary. We can be their voices when no one else will. Below are some of the stories that have touched our hearts…and some which have broken them. But they are, without a doubt, the reason we do this work.

Meet some of the dogs whose lives we have changed!
Jasmine
In 2022, Jasmine was found by our team member Lupita, dragging herself across a busy street in Hermosillo near a car mechanic shop. Jasmine was not even a year old and had been hit by a car, which rendered her paralyzed. In addition to a broken spine, she was also suffering from a prolapsed uterus, which was dangerously hanging outside of her body, making her extremely vulnerable to infection.
Lupita rushed Jasmine to an emergency vet where she was treated immediately for the prolapsed uterus. Once recovered from this surgery, she went on to have several others on her spine and hind quarters, which was literally raw from having dragged herself for weeks…bone was visible in two of her deepest wounds.
Despite all of this, Lupita NEVER gave up on Jasmine, even though it meant that Jasmine spent the first six months of her recovery living at the vet so that she could be closely monitored for infection. Paws Without Borders launched several campaigns and were able to help cover the majority of Jasmine’s vet bills.
Once Jasmine was healed, we started to focus on finding Jasmine a forever home! But she was only here for a short while, because she was taken in by one of our partner organizations, New Day Dog Rescue, in Montreal Canada! Jazzy spent a year there with a wonderful foster. But in March 2024, Jasmine went to a foster trial in upstate New York...which would become her forever home and family!!! Jazzy taught us so much, and is a huge part of the reason why we do the work we do here at PWB! Happy Tails, Jasmine!
